frequently asked questions ...

  1. How do I instruct you? You can instruct us on-line. Firstly, obtain a quotation. This will bring you  to a page where you will be able to instruct us on-line. Alternatively, if you want to speak to us, you can telephone us on 0845 8387013 or email us at .
  2. When do I pay you? If you are buying or selling a house, we will ask you for the payment for the searches straightaway, which is £250.00. The rest though, will not be payable until exchange of contracts. We will send you a statement at the right time telling you how much we need from you. The statement will include all the costs of the transaction.
  3. Are you regulated? Croftons HomeLegal is part of Croftons, a firm of solicitors. We are therefore regulated by the Law Society and have to comply with the Law Society's rules and regulations.
  4. How much will it cost? You can get a free quotation from this website here. This is a fixed fee for your conveyancing and will not change.
  5. How long will it take? This varies from case to case and will depend on a number of factors. A standard transaction, without complications, usually takes six to ten weeks. You can expect six to eight weeks to get to exchange of contracts and then another two to four weeks to completion. We will try and move your sale or purchase along as quickly as we can but there are some factors which are outside our control, such as your mortgage offer, delays on the part of the person you are buying from or selling to, or delays up or down the chain.
  6. When and how do I get the keys? It is usual for the estate agents to have the keys and if you are buying a house you will be able to pick them up from the estate agents on the day of completion (once the money has reached the seller's solicitors' account).
  7. Do I pay my estate agents myself? We will, on your sale, pay the estate agents direct from the sale proceeds. We will also pay your existing mortgage lender the outstanding amount due under your mortgage.
